Presenting 'Edd Russell' from this Saturday - ENJOY!

Here she is folks, It's our latest new addition to the crew - It's 'Pixie' from San Francisco. TURN ON & TUNE IN!!!

Hello folks.. Mr.Lee reporting at The Overflow Newsdesk.

This coming Saturday - April 18th, we are very pleased to announce the arrival of two brand new regular presenters here at Starship Overflow.

The Saturday schedule takes on a whole new sound, with Alternative Rock & Indie between 1-4am/pm.

Following Mick Magic /Andy Latham at 1am/pm will be new recruit - EDD RUSSELL with his show - PLAY IT LOUD!

Edd has previously worked in local radio and is pleased to be aboard, where he has the freedom to make as much noise as likes! Remember listeners, Play it loud!

Following Edd, will be PIXIE, another new recruit from across the pond, at 2am/2pm every Saturday.

Starship Overflow is very pleased to welcome our second female presenter to the fold. Pixie is a true Golden-Gate girl, from the heart of San Francisco. So has a beautiful american accent, perfect for radio.

Her show - Pixie's Mix, does exactly what it says on the tin! A 60 minute mix of Indie & Alternative sounds, past present and future, with a few choice links inbetween.

Finally, to complete the Saturday schedule, in place of Graham McIsaac's Armchair journey, will be Graham's other show - Infinite Indie. The two shows will swap places on the schedule from this Saturday April 18th...

(Graham's Armchair Journey Into Space -  can now be heard every Sunday at 1am/pm - See schedule).

So here is how the all-new Saturday will look!

12 Noon Mick Magic / Andy Latham

1am/pm Edd Russell - PLAY IT LOUD

2am/pm Pixie - PIXIE'S MIX

3am/pm Graham McIsaac - Infinite Indie

4am/pm Michael.A. - 3D Power Trip (23)

5am/pm Paul Woodwright - Electric Salad Show

7am/pm Mark Anderson (Radio Sylvia) (German)

9pm - Midnight  Garry Lee - Live Simultaneous broadcast with Radio Seagull 747khzAM (Holland)

TURN ON & TUNE IN FOLKS - PEACE OUT! GL.

Since Day 1, amonst the various music types covered Starship Overflow has always been a great supporter of Roots reggae & Dub. Within a few months of being on air, we started a Reggae show in 1987 called The Black Sounds Of Freedom. The show got it's title from the classic Black Uhuru album released in 1977.

The whole caboodle lock, stock & barrel was put together by an old Overflow presenter called Reggae Ray. Ray was part of the crew for the first 10 years. Other presenters included the brilliant Gordon Ganja, who took over at the helm for a while... (See article below).

So, I've decided I'd lke to revive The Black Sounds Of Freedom once more, to complete our line-up & schedule. I've started putting feelers out in Reggae world, but early days yet.

Perhaps you yourself may be interested in a regular slot, or know someone else who may be? If so, just make contact with us via the e-mail address, or on Starship Overflow messenger.

Shows can be 1 or 2hrs long and will be aired late evenings. They can be weekly, monthly or whatever you wish them to be.

We have two new presenters starting this coming weekend, so someone who knows their Dub/Roots Reggae etc, would complete our regular line-up a treat.

Spacelove, GL.

Here at Starship Overflow, we recently learned of the sad passing, of our old friend and presenter Gordon Ganja.

Our long running reggae show - The Black Sounds Of Freedom, was originally presented by Reggae Ray. But GG also presented the show for a while, back in 1990 / 1991.

By trade, he was a brilliant leathersmith! He made various things for fellow dj's and.. we still have.. sitting in the production studio on the desk, a beautiful leather Overflow patch he made for us in 1989. Still looks brand new!

My funniest memory of the man... One Sunday night (1991) we had all been to Happy Hour at The (now legendary) Bakers Arms and came back to the studio absolutely plastered.

Gordon decided he wanted to do a live reggae show once we'd stumbled up the stairs, so he did. Meantime, we'd brought all these eggy sandwiches back from the pub... to which I have no recollection as to why??

No sooner had Gordon started his show, he had an attack of the munchies, so started on the eggy sarnies.

Within minutes, his beard (imagine a ZZ Top style beard) was just full egg! It was down his shirt, jacket, his jeans and funniest of all, all over his face.

Meantime he's merrily chatting away on air in his slurred west country accent, about how much he loves thesed eggy sandwich!

We were all in hysterics in the background, so with the added sound effects it made a real Pirate Radio moment.

We still have the cassette tape recording somewhere here. So when it's found, will get it cleaned up.

REST IN PEACE - GORDON GANJA

A lovely & very funny fella.

Just a brief note this time round, to let you all know that our clocks will go forward here on board The Starship Overflow, tonight (Saturday 28th) @ 1AM CET (That's Midnight in the UK).

So after the Live show finishes at Midnight, we go straight onto Doctor Dan's 10,000 Hours Of Indie Show at the new 1AM summertime.

www.starshipoverflow.com

The last post I made here on our news page, was the weekend when radio presenter Graham McIsaac joined us, bringing his brand new show - Armchair Journey Into Space.

It seems that our Graham is a man of many talents. As well playing gigs at venues and festivals around the UK and producing the show I mentioned above, Graham starts a second regular show for us this coming Sunday - March 29th, called 'Infinite Indie'.

The show covers everything from Indie classics, to unkowns, as well as one or two newer artists too.

To check out Graham's Infinite Indie, just TURN ON & TUNE IN to The Starship Oveflow at 1am &/or 1pm every Sunday and play full blast!

So, the schedule changes I mentioned.. The Reverend Rabbit now moves up from 1'o'clock to 12 (Replacing Mr.Lee's old Stonehenge Disco shows) and Graham kicks off the Indie tracks straight after at 1, before Dan brings us 2hrs of the newer Indie releases at 2.

ENJOY!

Here at The Starship Overflow, we are pleased to announce the immenent arrival of our newest recruit.

Local Radio presenter Graham McIssac joins us on board this weekend, bringing you the first in a brand new series of shows.

I wont tell you too much about exactly what Graham has promised to play, but the title of his show should give you some idea...

Join Graham at 3am/3pm every Saturday from March 14th.

See full programme schedule for details.

(Found above News items).

Back at the beginning of this year, sadly Mike had to take time out due to bereavement. So you've not heard Mike's voice on a sunday afternoon for a few weeks now.

Mike first started producing his popular 'Blackout Radio Show' for Starship Overflow back in 2018. After his long running programme had been aired on many other radio stations.

We're pleased to announce, that from next week, Mike is back! Though due to the new Sunday schedule now being in place, plus new additions filling the remaining Saturday slots very soon, Mike has been given a new regular time on Fridays at Midnight & Midday.

So dont forget to Turn on & Tune in each friday and check out The Blackout Radio Radio Show - Your guide to the new psychedelic and underground releases!

Here at The Starship Overflow, remember there are 24hrs to fill in every day! So that's exactly what we do... and you can help us maintain that , if you want to?

We are always looking for new presentes to add to our team. We currently have an amazing line-up of jocks, but would still like a few more to join us.

As long as your music taste fits with our format below...

Indie - Spacerock - Prog - Stoner - Psych - Punk - Blues - New Wave - Ska - Reggae - Dub - Rock - Goth - Industrial - Electronic - Experimental - Festival Oddities & More.

We welcome experienced presenters, though you dont particularly need any experience to put a show together.

What you do need, is a clear speaking voice, a laptop & mic and the ability to edit a 1hr mp3 file together.

Really quite a simple task, as long as you have some music editing software. Wavepad (From NCH) is FREE and user friendly. You dont need to pay out for any of the expensive software, as this will do the job perfectly every time. (Audacity is also popular with some).

Think you are up to it? Go on, I dare you!

Find our email here: https://www.starshipoverflow.com/contact.html

On to more technical issues... Our main man here is Techy Andy, who specialises on the pc side. But we could also use an electronics genius, for repairs of older equipment.

We like to make radio the old fashioned way. Personally, records tapes CD's Minidiscs & even reel to reel machines are my thing. So we have stacks of Denon & Tascam equipment, which will need either maintaining or repairinng. We have a source for some replacement parts.

(Our reel machines being Akai, Sony & Philips.)

Whatever we do here, we have a laugh doing it. Life is too short, so why not jump on The Starship Overflow and see where it takes you? You have nothing to lose but your sanity! 🙃

Example Text

Long-term Starship Overflow presenter DD, has been with the station since around 2020. Originally Dan joined us, when we were providing all the programming for the now defunct RGFM in South London.

His first batch of shows were called The Music Explosion and were good at the time. Then suddenly the station closed and we parted company.

Dan went on to make a successful podcast under the name 10,000 Hours Of Indie. So when I approached Dan last summer, he was happy to return to radio and converted his podcast into a regularly weekly programme called... the 10,000 Hours Of Indie Show!

That was last October. Since then, Dan's new shows have become quite exciting. They have that spark about them, thanks to Dan's no nonsense presentation whilst bringing you the very latest sounds from the Indie scene.

So Dan's well & truly up'd his game and from last Sunday, his programme became a new regular 2hr show.

Catch Dan every Sunday afternoon at 2pm, or if you're a nightbird like most of us, catch him at 2am!

Below, is one of Dan's playlists from 2021.

Wow... after a few weeks of illness over Dec/Jan, I cant believe the progression that the new year has brought so far!

It's only February and we already have four new presenters who will be joining the crew over the coming weeks.

The first to start, was Andy Radburn last sunday, who was on air for the first time from 11pm. Andy brings us new and old sounds, from the world of Psych/Prog & Krautrock, as well as covering news from the festival scene, which is perfect for this time of night.

Still to come, another three new voices, all of which will soon be heard on Saturdays. Two ex-local radio presenters are joining us, that's Graham & Ed. Graham will be the next to start on Saturday 14th March.

Until now, our only female presenter has been Terri B, who is regularly heard on Sundays. So another new addition to the crew, will be U.S. female presenter - Pixie, who will soon be joining the Saturday line-up.

So who's this below? Terri... Pixie? Well it's not Graham!

Perhaps I dont exist either, or I'm in a spiralling timescape through space... woooah how close is that black hole? These are just some of the daily thoughts that pass through our presenters minds. You can read more about the aliens behind the voices soon, when time permits to update this page. Meantime, truth be told, we're just chilling out and listening to the new Cardiacs album! :)
