The Starship Overflow

Hi everyone,

Good and bad news today. As many of you know already, our main website has been hacked and is currently down. This happened at precisely 8.40am on Saturday morning.

The problem does NOT affect our output at all.. We are still here blasting out the music across time & space.

In fact tonight's 9PM Live show in conjunction with Radio Seagull went extremely well! The new additions to the studio served their purpose and Mr.Lee was a happy chappie. So expect more at the same time next week.

After hearing from Adrian today (technical expert at Radio Seagull), he was 100% happy with our Live Link-up and the output. This means we can now continue at our usual time, every Saturday night on Radio Seagull, but with a big difference. The programme comes LIVE and direct from The Starship Overflow with me Garry Lee each week. Radio Seagull links direct to our server and picks up a live feed which it then redistributes on the dutch network.

This means you can listen to the show on AM in Holland, if you have an old fashioned medium wave radio. As well as via both the two stations on their websites & other radio players online.

Programme wise, it may not always be 100% New Releases on a Saturday night. These shows take a whole week to prepare. So I will be working on some other shows inbetween.

Sometimes it may be an ALL VINYL night. I'm planning several diffderent ones! One of which, is a Punk & New Wave Night (Music of 1975-1981), as well as a 90's special about the direction the music took on the pirate station in that decade. Other ideas include a programme on 'Cassette Culture', a Reggae night & of course various occasions, such as Halloween & Xmas amongst others. 

Lots more stuff is being planned, so do keep an eye on this news page, if you want to find out the latest as it happens! 

Garry Lee... Overflow News..... SPACE!

It's nearly 2am on board the Starship Overflow and Mr.Lee is still buzzing! I've just completed a Live 3hr new releases show (9pm - Midnight), which was relayed by Radio Seagull in The Neherlands on 747AM and online via both our websites, as well as various players.

This is the first broadcast of it's kind for us, which we hope will lead to further Live Link-up's in the future.

The new releases show first began in 2002, after closing down the pirate station. Over a thousand shows have been produced and aired since then, thanks to many radio stations around the world. 

I first tryed a Live new releases show, way back in 1999 on the pirate station, but found it a lot of work so abandoned it for a while. When it did eventually start, it was for Radio Caroline in Holland and was ALWAYS a recorded show (originally on C90 cassettes would you believe).

Fast forward 23 years... Cant believe it's taken me this long to do a second Live New Releases Show! 

To start with, it was a bit daunting. 3hrs is a long time to cope with that level of concentration. having to make sure you play certain tracks, timings are correct and most importantly, that you have all the relevant information in the right places, so you can inform listeners. I never work from a script, never have and dont need too. But a list of pointers, plus info on the releases you play, are essential for a Live show of this nature.

Tonight was an absolute blast, I loved it! It's so much more fun, making spontaneous Live radio. Same again next Saturday night... what do you reckon?

Wow, what a day it's been! After only 4hrs sleep last night, Starship Overflow successfully launched at Midday yesterday, Oct 12th. 

I am chuffed to say, that we did'nt have one single technical problem from the off! So I guess the long period of Test Transmissions must have served their purpose.

The stream has proved very reliable so far. Solid, is the term I hear most from people, which is great.

Listener figures we were also quite astounded by. As there was'nt the time to do quite as much advertising as originally planned, I was'nt expecting too much. But you guys just kept tuning in and tuning in! It was quite overwhelming at times.

So I offer sincere thanks to every single one of you that listened on Day 1 and helped spread the word, that...

So, why now?

I wanted to get us back on air independantly, before our 40th anniversary. Years ago, it would have more difficult to fill the airtime 24/7, as the Underground scenes were so much smaller. Then along came the internet in the early zero's, which was to open up literally everything and change life for us all in so many different ways. We'd never been 24/7 before, other than on the occasional weekenders we did as FM pirates back in the day.

Content?

There will certainly be plenty of that! Back to back Underground sounds, plenty of sillyness from our potty bonkers crew, guest dj's (including many artists / musicians and more), competitions, featured albums and a disastrous menu for our dj's, provided by Mavis.

Aliens on board?

YISS! ... as Mavis would say, plenty of us! Including The Reverend Rabbit Show, Jim Fourniadis - Musical Gumbo, Garry Lee - Stonehenge Disco, Mike Pougounas - The Blackout Radio Show, Tim Rice & Mavis The Tealady.... plus also many other voices, including Andrew Latham, Mick Magic, Doctor Dan, Mark Anderson, Jeff Fitzgerald, Kev Ellis, Brendan Day.. the list goes on! 

Music content

As much as we can fit in to an hour, every hour! Emphasis is on the music always, with a little 'intelligent' chat.. As we only expect listeners of a very high IQ to tune in, we wont be speaking 'Sheep' like most of the other stations.

What do we want from you?

Lots!.. though mainly, YOUR EARS! One thing we love on Live shows, is audience participation. It makes for great fun radio, which in turn makes the listener feel good. So we love to hear from you via Messenger, SMS Txt, Email, or if all else fails, just shout st the sky!
